How to get your Tax Rebates

In order to get your Tax Rebates all you need to do is file a federal income tax return for 2007. Even if you do not have a filing requirement and do not have a tax liability, you will still need to file a return so that the IRS will know that the person qualifies for the rebate. Although some filers, such as high-income filers, will not qualify for a stimulus payment, most will.

Normally, you will fill out your return, reporting all your income, deductions and credits as you normally would. But even if you are not required to file, you must file a 2007 return to get a stimulus payment this year inorder to get yout Tax Rebate Check. Low-income workers, Social Security beneficiaries, certain railroad retirees and those who receive certain benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs who normally don't file a tax return may receive a stimulus payment if they file a tax return this year. The IRS will provide special filing instructions for those who do not otherwise have a filing requirement.

Rebate checks will be mailed/or direct deposited starting in May, 2008 and continuing through the summer months. Direct deposit would occur if you provided information to direct deposit information when filing your 2007 return. Checks or direct deposit will be remitted based on the order of 2007 tax return filings meaning you will be receiving your check based on your 2007 return in the order 2007 returns are processed. This does not mean that money will run out if you don't file. It just means the sooner you file, the sooner you will be in the queue to receive your tax rebate check.

You do not need to calculate the amount of the tax rebates. If you qualify, the IRS will automatically figure it and send it to you. The IRS will also send you a notice showing the amount of your payment. You do not need to call the IRS or fill out any other special forms.
